Day 15-Interaction

Had no BPE lessons today as all classrooms were booked. Instead, we had an interaction session with the local students today. They organised an orange plantation trip for us and a BBQ in the evening. We meet up with them 130pm in the afternoon and took a 20mins short bus journey from our campus to the plantation. It seems like they have planned the trip really well and wanted to make it enjoyable for us. And they didn't failed. We really enjoyed this rare plantation trip that is hardly seen in Singapore. This plantation tour allowed us to pick any oranges you liked, and you can peel and eat on the spot. Tried a few oranges and it was not bad. Also tried a cooked sweet potato and it was tasty as well.

Returned back to school at around 5pm. Went back to hostel and change to prepare for BBQ session later on in the evening. The BBQ is also organised by the same local students. Took a 5mins walk to a small park and have our BBQ. The most interesting thing is that their BBQ pit is totally different from ours. It is like a cooking stove with seats circled around it. And the fire starting part is not easy as well, as we had to break tree branches and throw them in to spread the fire. At the night, some of the students went to buy fireworks and lit them up. It was the first time getting so close to the firework spot. The fireworks just lit and shoot up about 5m away from you, and break into beautiful sparkling light above your head. That kind of excitement you can never experience in Singapore as fireworks is banned.

That's the BBQ pit we are having!

Reflection:
Today's interaction session has seen us made some friends with the local students. Frankly speaking, they are really friendly and helpful in any areas that we need. They took out their time to organise such a wonderful trip for us and even the BBQ, where they buy the foods and drinks themselves without having us to fork out money. I feel that such generousity should be practised when welcoming foreigners to own country, and they had achieved that. Hopefully back in Singapore, we can see more of such actions being done to make foreigners feel welcome. Last but not least, a big thank you to the local students for planning such a wonderful session for us.
